Change for Children's Centres work is currently split into two phases. Please note that all details and dates are subject to change.
Phase 1 (April 2013 - July 2014) During Phase 1 we are making changes aimed at improving the performance of Children's Centres. This includes reviewing and standardising processes and policies across all existing Children's Centre services in Somerset. Following this, we will look at reshaping existing services so that they are fit for the future. We need to make sure that services offer good value for money, are targeted at children and families in need of intervention or support and that there is an “improved range and relevance” of services available.

Proposals for Change A set of proposals for changes to Somerset's Children's Centre services has recently been approved by Somerset's Executive Leadership Team and the Children's Improvement Board. You can see the proposals on the Useful Information page. To find out what families, staff, partners and providers think about the proposals, a formal, public consultation will take place. The results of the consultation will help Council Members to agree on the future shape of Children's Centre services. Visit the Timeline & Events page to see when things are due to happen.

Phase 2 (October 2013 – December 2015) Phase 2 is about investigating what options there are for commissioning out Children’s Centre services differently and will take place, if agreed by Cabinet, after services have been restructured. It is important to note that no decisions have been made about this yet. We currently anticipate that a decision on future commissioning of Children’s Centres will be made during the next financial year (from April 2014) and for any changes to be rolled out by either 1st April 2015 or 1st September 2015.
